Hello everyone, what a beautiful day for the 2007 Mermaid Parade. Hope everone is having a great time. We decided Easton is a bit to young to be out there today, but we will all be there next year for sure! We did send out a reprasentative to keep an eye on the parade, Make sure to say hello to our Mermaid on the corner of Surf and West 12th.

Hello Everyone, we know many of you have been checking this site for some sort of update on the status of Coney Island Shortcakes. Those of you who have been out to Coney Island looking for us have already realized we aren’t out on the boardwalk. This summer we decided to focus on an entriely different type of project, our son. Easton Coney Weise was born on May 2nd. He is absolutley amazing and we love him more than anything. As you can tell by his name our thoughts are still on the boardwalk, but instead of trying to run the shortcake business and figure out a new baby this summer, we decided it was best to just focus on taking care of him. We already miss the amazing friends and customers we met last summer and although we won’t be serving all of you the best and only strawberry shortcake in Coney island, we look forward to seeing some of you when we visit with Easton this summer. Untill then….
We just found this video digging throught our archives from this summer.
This guy did james Brown Covers every Friday Night on stage in the back of the bar.

R.I.P. James Brown
James Brown Jr, thanks for keeping the magic alive.

Wow! what can we say. We always wanted to open a Strawberry Shortcake stand at Coney Island and we did. We went into it with that basic idea and got so much more out of it than we ever expected: Friends we will have for a lifetime, experiences we will never forget, skills that we never knew we had, and memories that are worth more than words can say. To everyone that came out to support us this summer and told their friends to stop by, to all the blogs, newspapers and TV people that wrote such nice things about us, To all the great people we met thank you for making the Summer of 2006 the most memorable summer of our lives!
One of the big motivating factors behind doing Coney island Shortcakes this summer was the possibility that Coney Island was going to be bought and re-developed into a sea of condos and Planet Hollywoods and movie themed rides. Well at the end of the summer Thor equities closed on the final piece of propperty ( the land that Cha Cha’s is on) they needed for their plans to become a reality. They have already started kicking businesses out along Stillwell and who knows what’s next. But one thing is for sure based on Thor’s renderings were not sure if the Shortcake stand will fit in the new plans….

What do you think?
On the 21st of September we took the entire front of the shortcake stand and transported it to Williamsburg for a One night only art show at the Laila Lounge. the response was amazing and the shortcakes went like… well… shortcakes. people loved them. thanks Chloe and Mouse for inviting us.

Over the last couple of weeks we have been fourtunate to actually get a chance to spend time with some of our out of town friends we didn’t think we would get to see this summer. Granted we spent time with them while selling shortcakes at the booth, but it was quality time and we reall appreciated the help. It feels great to have such good friends.

Tanya came all the way from Charlottesville Virginia and couldn’t get enough shortcake.

Sarah took the train down from Poughkeepsie.

Christine and Mike came all the way from Buffalo for Labor Day weekend. Apparently Christine has been following this site quite a bit over the summer and was very familiar with the shortcake business. So familiar that her and Mike took over the booth for a few hours while Kalene and I wandered around Coney Island together for the first time all summer. thanks guys!

Much thanks to Rachel Wharton and Joel Cairo from the NY Daily News for writing a great story and taking some great pictures of the stand.
Stop by your local newstand an pick up a copy of the Sunday Daily News or check out the aticle online.

Lola Staar is one of our favorite businesses on the boardwalk. Not only because Lola and her employees are some of our most frequent customers, but they also have the coolest looking store with the best Coney Island & Brooklyn merchandise on the boardwalk. Stop by Lola Staar and say hello.

Lola’s family even stopped by the booth to get try some shortcake.
Hunter comes by the booth every once and a while to make a little xtra cash.
sometimes he hands out flyers, and some times he makes shortcakes.
